The holidays are coming, and the season demands a feast. We’ve selected a few of the numerous restaurants in the city that are offering special menus for Christmas, or those providing especially festive catering and carry-out.

Le Traiteur The catering company Le Traiteur’s Christmas menu offers traditional French specialties such as foie gras, Christmas cookies, and stuffed turkey, and between Christmas and New Year’s Eve various types of appetizers, quiche, and light salads. The complete menu will be available in mid-December, and the restaurant recommends placing your orders as soon as possible. Free delivery of orders over CZK 1,000 throughout the holiday season.

Bakeshop PrahaDress up your Christmas table with sweets from the oven – gingerbread men or snow-women. If you want a taste of something new over the holidays, order a French Christmas roll with snow mushrooms, or a real, imported Italian Christmas fruitcake with candied fruits. Christmas cookies for eight crowns apiece, and cakes for CZK 425 and up.

Francouzská restaurace v Obecním doměOn Christmas Eve a caviar and snail brunch (CZK 995) starts at 11:30 am, and in the evening there will be a five-course menu starting at CZK 1,650. On New Year’s Eve you can enjoy a creamy soufflé with spruce mushrooms or smoked Alaskan salmon. The holiday menu also features a traditional “Take Away” offer of Christmas cookies. Orders can be placed until 20 December.

Nostress Café Gallery

Want to enjoy something unusual at Christmas, but you don’t want to do any baking? If you’re planning on organizing a Christmas party for your friends or colleagues at the Nostress Café, you can create your own menu at a price of your choice – let your imagination run wild. Until 6 December you can order Christmas cakes for 4 to 12 people made by the Belgian firm Debailleul. The folks at Nostress are also looking forward to your visit on New Year’s Eve, when a special menu created just for this occasion will be offered.

Pálffy Palác

If you still haven’t decided where to ring in the new year, consider Pálffy Palác. For CZK 2,600 you can enjoy roasted quails or mousse from young roaster, and sweeten the arrival of 2004 with home-made chocolate bon-bons. Vegetarians can look forward to a special offer at the same price, including such treats as endives filled with mushroom risotto. Make a reservation for the special menu promptly.

Paneria

For yuletide, the Paneria bakery has prepared cookies following the classic recipes of our grandmothers. 300 grams of mixed cookies, which you can buy for CZK 160, includes walnut hearts, vanilla crescents, and almond stars. You can have them delivered to your home for a delivery charge of CZK 99 in Prague 1, while residents of Brno, Cheb, Kladno, Znojmo, and other Prague districts will pay CZK 159.

La Perle de Prague

This restaurant will be closed for Christmas (on 24, 25, and 26 December), but you can celebrate the New Year there. The tasting menu that has been prepared, with eight courses, includes a welcome drink and a midnight taste of Champagne on the eighth floor terrace of the Fred and Ginger building, with a lovely view of night-time Prague. New Year’s eve prices start at CZK 4,900 per person.
