Cuba through the looking glass
News photographs from Havana and its environs were taken in May 2003, then subjected to a special film developing technique, so-called cross-processing, which lends the images special atmosphere and colors. They look more like hyper-realistic paintings. The photographer, Lenka Hatašová (1969), has been a professional photographer since 1990. She gradually focused on news and sports photography and found her place with society magazines. But shooting newsworthy events, especially street scenes, remains her main love, which can be seen in several exhibitions on this genre. In the beginning of the nineties, she showed her collection of pictures from November of 1989 in New York and Strasbourg, and later in Prague she exhibited photos from her stay in the US and her trip to war-torn Sarajevo.
Lenka Hatašová: Cuba Mi Amor, Kavárna 42, Kubelíkova, Praha 3
until the end of January 2004, open daily, free admission

A play for Europe
In Coriolanus, his tragedy from the dawn of European history, William Shakespeare showed that some problems have been part of human nature from the very beginning. We’re still facing the same dilemmas that accompanied the establishment of the first village. Written when Shakespeare’s creative powers were at their peak, Coriolanus is the story of an exceptional person, warrior, and leader, Coriolanus (played by David Prachař under the direction of Ivan Rajmont), who should have become the head of state but, due to his inability to tactically employ subterfuge, he was driven off and betrayed. He also betrayed himself and lost his direction, which he didn’t find until the moment when he willingly signed his own death warrant.
